History
The computational activities started 1973-74 in the Physics department of the university with installation of IBM 1620 computer. The Computer was used for applications like Payroll Processing, Result Processing and Research. The students of Diploma in Computer Applications and other post graduate and research students were trained on the computer. Later the Computer was replaced by IBM 360 housed in a building named after the Philanthropist Late Shri Gordhanbhai Hathibhai Patel, who donated money for construction of the building. The practical training to the MCA and PGDCA students was imparted using the mainframe system. Also advanced applications to cater to the University administration and research were developed. Later the Mini computer was installed. Thereby with the advent of microcomputers, the role of Computer Centre changed a bit. The departments purchased computers and related software for their research and consulted the computer centre for queries on installation and usage.
