Department Profile

The Department started in June 1982 with Bachelor of Library and Information Science course. While Master of Library and Information Science started in 1988, M. Phil was first started in 1991-92, for a year & closed it because of insufficient Infrastructure facility. Again started in 2004 and Ph. D. in 1996.Like steadily the development of courses took place under the department. This may be the only University in Gujarat who has started all the four courses. B. LI. Sc and M. LI. Sc. are full time courses, (Two Semester) while M LI Sc & M. Phil is part time courses M LI Sc (Four Semester) & M. Phil (Two Semester). For PhD both the options are open – full time & part time.

The Department is situated at 4th floor of Bhaikaka Library.

The department is fortunate to have a Legacy of Two past professor, Late Dr. C.N.Rawal and Retd. Prof. U.A. Thaker without their untiring  efforts and crystal clear vision the department has not reachard at this Level as it is in present time. Their dedicated and Missionary approach right from the 1989-90 onwards  up to 2014, both of them do their best to lift up this department at National Level, They have played very key role in the various committees and programme at MHRD, UGC Level.
At present, Dr. Meghna Vyas is Head of the Department.
At present the Department has one Full time Faculty. Which has more than 19+ years of experience in different capacity.
