From the Desk of the Head

The Department since its inception in 1963 has travelled a journey of nearly 53 years and has outshined many milestones in its progress towards academic brilliance and distinction. With the blessings of the eminent sociologists as the predecessors of the department, like Dr. N A Thoothy, Dr. B V Shah, Dr. A S Patel, Dr. J D Thaker, the department has well-maintained its academic repute in the educational township of VallabhVidyanagar. Guided by the university motto “Excellence Matters”, the Department of Sociology, shares vision and adopts mission and objectives of Sardar Patel University of which it is an integral part.

Having produced number of Postgraduates, M. Phils and Ph. Ds, the Department has maintained its tradition of excellence and also taken care of changing demands of the society enabling us to efficiently cater to the needs of all stakeholders. We ensure that the students get academically rich and supportive environment enabling them to develop their talents in the discipline we offer. The Department of Sociology is widely recognized for its field-defining and conceptually driven empirical research and its pioneering quantitative and qualitative methodology. We are determined to inculcate the academic and research ethics in our students, contributing to the welfare of the society and associated domains. 

The department, by addressing the issues and demands of the society through research has been dynamic in dealing with the nature of the society. In this regard the Department has continuously been associating itself with various reputed organizations. Nurturing and promoting the goal of the subject matter remains as the prime objective to lead students and research scholars through the discipline and bring new dimensions into the study of the subject, and make them become active participants in future development of the society.
