The Postgraduate Institute of Business Management at Sardar Patel University was established in 1982.
A two-year (full-time) MBA Programme accordingly commenced in 1989. The programme, currently, has an intake of 80 students and is duly approved by
All India Council for Technical Education, (AICTE), New Delhi. The University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and the Government of Gujarat generously support it. The Master’s degree programme in Business Administration (MBA) seeks to provide opportunities to young men and women to acquire knowledge and skills and develop attitudes essential for assuming positions of leadership in the management profession.
Department also offers Ph. D. Programme in management. More than 100 students have been awarded the degree and currently 47 are pursuing their Ph. D. under the guidance of senior faculty members.
From a modest beginning the Institute has made rapid strides in achieving its stated objectives. It can boast of a well-qualified and experienced faculty, a richly stocked library and a well-equipped compute room. The Institute is located at the new building that was inaugurated by the then Honorable Finance Minister and the current Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on December 17th, 1994. In addition to all this the Institute has a large auditorium cum seminar hall with a seating capacity of 300 persons. A separate NRI hostel with 26 double-seated rooms having all facilities was commissioned on 15 June 2001 and is now fully functional. The institute also has a fully air conditioned Seminar/Conference room with a capacity to accommodate 80 persons.
All the graduating MBA students have received excellent job placements in reputed business and industrial organizations.
The Business India survey 1999-2000 ranks the institute as an “A” grade institute in a major study comprising all the AICTE recognized business schools in India. Department is actively engaged in research. It successfully completed UGC SAP –I and II onConsumer research in Rural Areas. Department undertook research consultancy for Government on Knowledge, Attitude, Behaviour, Belief and Practices (KABBP) -Base line Election Survey assigned by Election Commission of India in Assembly election of Gujarat, July-September 2012. Faculty members of the department are also involved in preparing District HumanDevelopment Report of Panchmahals District as coordinator and co-coordinator.
