Future Plan

The unreserved and whole hearted contributions by the retired teachers of the department, we have received recognition as one of the leading departments in the western region. It is known as the best department with respect to teaching, research and extension activities. Ours is the first department, among UGC recognized statistics departments, to bring out placement brochures and conduct placement activities since 2004. Our teachers have done research in many leading areas of statistics. We have regularly conducted Seminars, Symposia, Conferences, Workshops, Training programs and Refresher Courses. Our graduates are working in governments sectors, financial sectors, educational institutes and abroad. To respect the efforts put forth by our predecessor, we have planned to expand the activities of the department so that the department may be renamed as “Post Graduate Institute for Statistical Sciences”.

Our first objective is to enhance Industry and Academic Linkage through consultancy activities. Give due regard to ex-head Late Prof.S.M.Shah we wish establish “Late Prof.S.M.Shah Consultancy Cell”. The following are few activities which we wish to include in the activities of the consultancy cell.

1. Encourage teachers/students of the department to give statistical consultancy for following activities.

(a) Statistical Consultancy for the Project Work of PG students of other departments(Mainly by the students of the department under earn-while-learn scheme)

(b) Statistical Consultancy to Research Students (Mainly by teachers’ with charges to be decided by the Department Research Committee with due approval by the university). For the consultancy provided without charge, we will expect joint publications leading to interdisciplinary research.

(c) Statistical Consultancy to any Government Bodies, Research Institutes, Corporate Sectors and Industries by the teachers of the department.(Students’ help may taken if students are doing M.Sc. Project Work).

(d) Create a “Data Repository” for use of teaching and Research.

2. Create a centre “Sardar Patel Centre for Management and Training in Quality, Productivity and Reliability” with the following objectives.
